As a psychiatrist and researcher at UCLA, my work aims to better understand and care for people with mental illness by developing personalized and predictive approaches to care, embracing the variety between individuals with the same illness, engaging others as equal co-partners
in the research process, and attempting to understand and measure not only a person's illness but the context of their community, their story and life experience.
We refer to this broadly as 'Participatory Informatics', blending the fields of neuroscience, computer science, participatory health
services research, and design.
